Bindweed Turret Bee

The Bindweed Turret Bee (Diadasia bituberculata) is a bee in the family Apidae, found in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This species is the most common and widespread of the Diadasia genus to be found at garden sites in California.

Its flight season is late spring, from April to June.

Bindweed turret bees are solitary bees that nest in the soil, mostly in flat, bare ground. Nests are often aggregated.

Bees of the Diadasia genus are pollen specialists. Females of most species are oligoleges, specializing on pollen from members of the mallow family (Malvaceae), especially Sphaeralcea and occasionally Malacothamnus.
