- Prefers semi-shade (light woodland) or full sun
- Flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male & female organs) and are pollinated by bees, insects, moths and butterflies
- Larval host plant for Monarch butterfly
- Found in Bay hills, Diablo, Hamilton and Antioch Dunes sections, also reported in Los Vaqueros watershed
