- Small shrub 4 inches to 2 feet tall
- Grows in full sun along open trails and road sides, in chaparral or coastal sand
- Blooms from March-April with flowers going from yellow to red then orange as they age
- Found in Molate, Bay hills, Diablo, Hamilton, Sycamore Grove and Antioch Dunes sections, also reported in Los Vaqueros watershed
